3 Social Media Marketing Trends that You Need to Know

There may be more than two months left in 2017, but now is the time to start thinking about your online marketing strategy for 2018. We often hear that human attention spans have fallen below that of a goldfish. While there is debate on the validity of this aging statistic, one thing that is certain is that humans have a difficult time focusing. The plethora of knowledge available online with links to other articles and videos found within content make it easy to get sidetracked.

The inability for humans to focus should be the center of your online marketing strategy moving forward. How can you create engaging content that delivers your core brand message without losing your audience’s interest? Here are the three biggest social media marketing trends that can increase your engagement and awareness moving into 2018:

  1. Story-telling.

Personal messages create more interest and invoke more engagement than traditional marketing methods like commercials or spammy e-mails pressuring customers to buy your next big product or service. If you hope to capture the attention of millennials, online ads are not the way to go with more than half using ad blockers to avoid pushy messages.

More and more individuals crave authentic and genuine content from the brands they support. Analyze your current customer database and create an ideal customer profile. What do these type of individuals need? Do they all have a common problem you can solve? Once you identify that need, create visual and compelling content that delivers personalized messages through social media, e-mail, and your blog.

  1. Short-lived Content.

Most successful businesses understand the importance of unique and relevant online content. However, the majority of businesses don’t utilize the fastest growing content trend, ephemeral content. Ephemeral means short-lived and is available for a certain timeframe (typically less than 24 hours). Once it’s gone, you can’t get it back.

Snapchat thrives on this content alone. Users create snippets of content and publish for others to view for a specific amount of time. Since its inception, other social media giants like Facebook and Instagram have added their own versions through the story features.

  1. Interactive Streaming.

Live streaming dominated news feeds in 2017 and served as a valuable tool for businesses to deliver content in real-time to their audience. Recently, Facebook rolled out an option where live hosts can invite others to participate live as well.

This feature opens the door to interactive streaming and live Facebook videos. Now brands can do more than talk and answer questions- they can invite participants to go live with them. Interacting with your audience in real-time shows your authenticity and creates something that other audience members want to be part of.

The truth is you have less time today to deliver a message than you did one year ago. To see success in online and social media marketing, you need to stand out and create an authentic two-way conversation. Using these techniques along with a strong search engine optimization (SEO) strategy will launch your business growth.
