The Best Times to Post on Social Media in 2021

Half the battle is knowing what to post on social media, but when is the perfect time to share it with the world? Algorithms change per platform, and time zones have an effect on the “best” time to post. What we know for certain is that the best time to post on social media is when your followers are online and most active. When considering which time zone to post in, think about where your customers are located. If you’re targeting an audience in the United States, you would want to use EST, as this time zone has the highest number of people thanks to places like New York City.

The times that work for one platform may not work for another. For instance, the best times to post on Facebook are different from the best times to post on Tiktok or Instagram. It can be a tough juggle to make your post available at the time when most people are checking their social media accounts, especially when all of your competitors are busy trying to do the same. With that said, we are going to let you in on the secret of what the best times are to post on different platforms.

Of course, the time to post a year ago was a bit different given the circumstances. As we have hit mid-pandemic, the best times to post on social media have changed since early 2020.

Facebook

In the last year, Facebook usage has grown. As more people stay home, there is more frequent activity throughout the week. Before the pandemic, the best times to post were Tuesdays and Thursdays between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., and Wednesdays at 11 a.m. and between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Activity had seemed to increase during the middle of the week.

The pandemic has drastically affected the best times to post on Facebook. In 2021, we have found the best time to post on social media is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. The weekends are still considered to be the worst time to post, but if you must, weekdays and weekends seem to get the most traction and engagement after 5 p.m.

Instagram

Many business owners use Instagram to market and sell their products. Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, the best times to post were just before lunch on Wednesdays at 11 a.m., and Fridays 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The best day to post was Wednesday. The worst day to post was Sunday.

However, data collected after the pandemic had started showed a significant shift in social media behaviors. Like Facebook, as more people started working from home, social media usage had increased and so caused a change in the hours users are most interactive. Due to the increased usage, the best days to post have been expanded to include Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, all still before lunch at 11 a.m. Data also shows that there is a spike in engagement seen on Tuesdays around 2 p.m.

Linkedin

While Facebook and Instagram are both used often for communication and entertainment purposes, Linkedin is used by professionals like recruiters, salespeople, and business men and women to work and connect with other professionals. Pre-COVID, the best times to post on Linkedin were during the work week and in the morning.

Unlike Facebook and Instagram, the social networking behavior on Linkedin has remained the same during the pandemic in that most people are still most active during the week and in the morning. After work and on the weekends are the worst times to post when looking to get engagement and visibility.

Twitter

The best times to post on Twitter remain the same during COVID-19 times – early in the morning on Wednesdays and Fridays. Most people use Twitter to catch up on the latest news in its simplest form. Twitter has been increasingly active as early as 7 a.m. through 9 a.m., making that time frame the best time to post on this platform.

Tiktok

Tiktok is quickly climbing its way up the social media ladder as 90% of users check the app daily. The app made its debut in September of 2016, and has acquired 800 million active users since. Tiktok blew up when COVID-19 flipped the world upside down and now, a growing number of children, teens, and adults log onto Tiktok every single day to watch their favorite creators.

Many creators on the app are still trying to perfect their knowledge of the algorithms, as they seem to change often. However, most users tend to scroll Tiktok first thing in the morning and right before they go to bed. With that being said, the best times to post on Tiktok are in the morning between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m., and in the evening between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m.

The best time to post on social media will vary depending on which platform you choose to post and the time zone of where your target audience lives. To determine the best time for your brand to post on social media, you should test and analyze. There are different social media management tools out there to help you see when and what content is performing best.

Take a look at your competitors’ social media too. Track their progress and take note of when they receive high engagement on their posts. Chances are those times could work for you too. Track each platform differently to get the best results.
