A rather large migration within the Google platform recently turned Google My Business into Google Business Profile. And, it’s more than just a name change! We’re here to help you navigate the new features and expectations for the platform.

Google began the changes to merge the business management system on the GMP app directly into Google Search and Google Maps with the plan to retire the Google My Business app completely sometime this year. The hope is to create a smoother transition to managing business listings directly from Google Search or Google Maps.

So what are the updates?

Business profiles will be managed from either the web versions or mobile apps, but Google Business Profile will also include some new features! For example, direct messaging and call history integrated directly into Google Search and Google Maps are included in Google Business Profile. This provides an excellent opportunity to engage with customers directly on the business’s profile.

Along with managing conversations, Google Business Profile has included Performance Planner for planning local advertising costs and analyzing outcomes for overall performance. This feature allows you to adjust campaign settings to help reach projected goals for marketing efforts.

While all these features are meant to simplify and keep most of the work in one area, it will undoubtedly take some getting used to for those fluent in GMB.

How exactly will management look different on the new platform?

Searching your business name in Google Search or Google Maps will allow you to see the business as long as you have already claimed and validated your account. From there, all features should be available and ready for use in your profile. As previously mentioned, you can access these features through the web versions or mobile apps.

As we learn more about Google Business Profile, we will share. But for now, don’t be afraid to explore the new features and take advantage of resources like this to quickly pick up on best practices and things to know!
