As the name implies, organic social media relies on shares, likes, comments, etc., in order to grow and gain traction in the platform. Organic social media focuses on building relationships with your followers and creating content that resonates with them to grow the following on your page. 

 

What is paid social media?

Paid social media is any paid advertising your business does. This includes boosted posts or paying to promote other content the business has to gain more customers and increase sales. After 2020, paid advertising skyrocketed. This trend allowed businesses to showcase deals and create new leads with targeted audiences without monitoring social media for trending topics or content ideas. While it may save the business time, it will certainly cost more than the brainpower needed for organic social media marketing. Plus, you’ll still need to develop creative ideas to showcase your product or service through advertisements. 

 

What are the benefits to each?

Organic social media is great for businesses tracking customers through the entire buying process. In addition, new businesses looking for recommendations/feedback or trying to create a “know, like, and trust factor” can benefit greatly from organic social media advertisements. 

Businesses that have had a kickstart in sales, but would like to expand, can benefit from paid advertising. They likely already have a base following of customers or clients that love their products or services and can vouch for the business. In addition, the paid advertisements will help reach a broader audience that may not have found their page any other way. 

 

Which should I use for my business?

This might not be entirely helpful, but it truly depends! The algorithm updates over the last year help those who are only using organic social media. Hashtags and keywords play a vital role in reaching new followers and potential customers.
