If you’re running your business’s social media accounts, you might be wondering how to make social media graphics. Images themselves are great, but sometimes you will need text or a design to help convey your message; that is where graphics come in. However, unless you have a background in graphic design, you’re probably lost on where to start.
At Fuhrman Creative, we create social media graphics for various clients every month. Read on for some of our best pointers on making graphics.
If you don’t feel confident creating your own design, you’re in luck. Services like Canva offer free templates for use. Though, you should check to ensure that the specific template you’ve chosen is allowed for commercial use. With these templates, you can insert your photos and text. Because they are free, there is often a watermark on the bottom; it’s up to you to decide if you would rather pay to remove the watermark or continue with the free version.
For the images in the template, it’s best to use your own photos. This makes your business appear more authentic and it gives your customers a better idea of who you are. However, if you don’t have any photos of your own to use, make sure you find images online that are free to use. Just because you can find an image from a website or a search engine does not mean that it is free to use.
Once you’ve found a template and made it your own, there is one last thing you need to do before posting. You will want to make sure that it looks clean. This means photos are correctly cropped, the graphic isn’t too busy or too minimal, and there are no spelling errors. Remember, your business’s social media page is a reflection of your business. You want to tell potential customers that you are attentive and professional; a poorly made graphic will not convey that.
